PSP homebrew: Nanodesktop ndOpenCV CamShift face tracking POC demo

Homebrew developer pegasus2000 has released a proof of concept demo for what could become a nice complement to his Nanodesktop Blind Assistant homebrew. Pegasus2000's new project is called Nanodesktop ndOpenCV CamShift. It's based on the CamShift face tracking algorithm in Intel's OpenCV library. It's just a proof of concept right now, but it does open up a lot of possibilities for hands-free gaming on the PSP. CamShift was originally developed as a gaming interface, after all. You can download the Nanodesktop ndOpenCV CamShift demo below. You'll need a Go!Cam a PSP Slim for this to work. Pegasus2000 says that this app will also make it into the next Nanodesktop Blind Assistant release. For more info, click on the visit link below. Tretton: Sony happy with August hardware sales, but more excited with coming holidays
Looks like the numbers are going up for Sony, and we all know numbers don't lie. Yesterday, NPD released the hardware sales numbers for August, and we saw Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Sony's PS3 neck and neck. The report said that the PlayStation 3 sales were at 185, 400, while the Xbox 360 had 195, 200. However, Sony would like to differ, saying that these numbers do not necessarily take into account the whole PlayStation hardware lineup which includes the PS3, PS2 and PSP. According to Sony's math, total sales for their PS hardware would be up to 582,000. Meanwhile, on a Year-to-date figure, the company said that the PS brand would have already generated nearly US 3.7 billion in revenue, showing a 21 increase year-on-year. Jack Tretton, SCEA's CEO, is looking very happy with these statistics. He says: We had yet another strong month for PlayStation in August, which validates that consumers are indeed recognizing the long-term value that PS3 offers as both gaming and home entertainment device.
We have also began shipping the new 80GB PS3 model in late August to address any short term inventory transitions from the 40GB to 80GB model. But while they're obviously pleased with the ongoing campaign of the PS3, the CEO says that he's looking forward to what the Holidays will bring. On their end, they're promising a string of games or "unmatched content" for the consumers. These titles are expected to be heavy-hitters, like LittleBigPlanet, SOCOM: Confrontation, Resistance 2, and MotorStorm: Pacific Rift. Related Sony Articles:

Madden dominates NPD US August software charts, DS still leading hardware

John Riccitiello must be a very happy man right now. Madden NFL 09 ( Xbox 360, Wii, PSP, DS, PC, PS3, PS2) has dominated the NPD US charts for August. The game's Xbox 360 version is sitting pretty at the top spot with a million units sold while the PS3 and PS2 versions are in second and third place with 643,000 and 424,500 units sold, respectively. Nintendo's Wii Fit gave a strong showing, too, getting the fourth spot with 394,900 units sold. At fifth is another Nintendo title, Mario Kart Wii, with 328,700 units sold. Here's a complete list of the top ten games: - Madden NFL 09 (EA Tiburon, Xbox 360) - 1,000,000
- Madden NFL 09 (EA Tiburon, PlayStation 3) - 643,000
- Madden NFL 09 (EA Tiburon, PlayStation 2) - 424,500
- Wii Fit (Nintendo, Wii) - 394,900
- Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo, Wii) - 328,700
- Wii Play (Nintendo, Wii) - 200,200
- Soul Calibur IV (Project Soul, Xbox 360) - 174,000
- Too Human (Silicon Knights, Xbox 360) - 168,200
- Madden NFL 09 (EA Tiburon, Wii) - 115,800
- Guitar Hero: On Tour (Vicarious Visions, Nintendo DS) - 111,200
There's only one DS title in the top ten software, but the Nintendo portable is still number one in the August hardware sales, selling 518,300 units. At second is the Wii with 453,000 units sold, while the PSP is third with 253,00 units sold. Rounding out the top five are the Xbox 360, selling a total of 195,200 units and getting the fourth spot, and the PS3 with 185,400 units sold. It's worth noting that the Xbox 360 price cut didn't affect the August sales as it took effect only this month. Related articles:
